3D configurator for modular workshop furniture

Objective

Build a B2C 3D configurator integrated into the existing e-commerce flow, allowing end customers to compose and visualize workshop furniture and workbenches intuitively and select compatible accessories, increasing the average order value for these categories and reducing the workload on the order department.

The challenge

Create an intuitive, responsive experience that end customers can use on both desktop and mobile, while enforcing fit and compatibility rules across products and accessories, applying custom quantity discounts, and integrating with the existing e-commerce platform with minimal changes.

The solution

We built a web-based configurator hosted on a dedicated subdomain with:

  • Photorealistic rendering of workshop furniture
  • Positioning engine with a grid that replicates the physical compatibility of modular furniture, plus an anti-collision system to manage folds introduced by corner modules
  • Positioning engine with collision detection and real-time drag for workbenches
  • CPQ engine for real-time quantity discount calculation, taking into account the kits sold by the client
  • Landing routes to open the configurator by loading ready-made kits already present in the existing e-commerce platform
  • Custom checkout API and cross-sell logic
  • Landing routes to restore configurations already sent to the cart and share them between users
  • Integration with the room planner developed in parallel for the same program
